Activity History and Best Efforts

Review yearly activity volume, rank best distance or time efforts, inspect GPS routes, and trace every result back to its source activity.

Activity History and Best Efforts

Use the history tools to move from “what happened?” to a specific source activity. Activity Stats summarizes volume, Best Distance ranks sustained efforts, and Map adds route context.

These pages describe recorded data. They do not certify a race result, predict a finish time, or explain why performance changed without further review.

Before you begin

  • Let imported activities reach Ready status.
  • Confirm sport classification, time zone, and unit system.
  • Correct duplicates and obvious sensor errors before comparing totals or records.
  • Select a time range that matches the question.
  • Remember that Map requires usable GPS coordinates; indoor and GPS-free activities can still appear elsewhere.

1. Review yearly activity volume

Open Analysis → Activity Stats. The page uses the current Activities sport filter, so set that filter before interpreting the report.

Choose a year from the sidebar. The available years extend back to the earliest activity for the selected sport. The heatmap covers the selected year's available 365-day window and counts activity days.

Below the heatmap, choose one metric:

  • Distance.
  • Duration.
  • Heart rate.
  • Activity count.
  • Calories.

Then aggregate the line chart by day, week, or month. Use daily data to investigate a short period, weekly data to review consistency, and monthly data to compare broad volume. Heart rate is averaged across contributing values; additive metrics such as distance and duration are summed.

2. Find best efforts

Open Analysis → Best Distance and follow this order:

  1. Select Run, Cycling, or Swim.
  2. Choose By Distance or By Time.
  3. Set the date range.
  4. Select a distance or duration target.
  5. Review the ranked records; the page requests up to ten results per target.
  6. Open the source activity from the record row.

By Distance answers “What was my fastest time for this distance?” By Time answers “How far did I cover during this duration?” The displayed pace helps compare efforts inside the same sport and context.

Do not call every row a personal record. A result is the best qualifying segment found in the selected data and range. It can come from a training activity, depend on GPS quality, and change after reprocessing or correcting an activity.

3. Inspect route history on Map

Open Map, then set the time and sport filters. The page draws routes for matching activities that contain usable GPS data.

Use Map to:

  • Find activities by location or route shape.
  • Compare where repeated sessions occurred.
  • Spot an incomplete or implausible route before opening the activity.
  • Create a route-based share poster for a selected activity.

Select a route to open its activity poster. From the poster, continue to the full activity detail when metrics, processing status, or sensor evidence matters.

Map is sensitive location data. Review the poster and route before sharing, and avoid exposing home, workplace, or another private start location.

4. Investigate a surprising result

If a yearly total, best effort, or route looks wrong:

  1. Open the source activity.
  2. Confirm start time, sport, provider, processing status, and unit system.
  3. Inspect GPS, distance, duration, pauses, and relevant sensor streams.
  4. Check for duplicates or incorrect sport classification.
  5. Correct the source activity or settings, then refresh the summary page.

Treat the source activity as the evidence. A summary page can reveal the problem but usually cannot explain or repair it by itself.

Verify the result

  • Activity Stats uses the intended sport, year, metric, and aggregation.
  • A best-effort row opens the expected source activity and matches its date.
  • The selected Map route belongs to the expected activity.
  • GPS-free activities are not mistaken for missing imports merely because they are absent from Map.
  • Any shared poster has been checked for private location data.

Troubleshooting

  • The wrong sport appears in Activity Stats: return to Activities, change the sport filter, then reopen or refresh Activity Stats.
  • Only the current year is available: the selected sport has no earlier qualifying activity, or the earliest-activity query has not completed.
  • The heatmap and line chart seem different: the heatmap counts activity days; the line chart uses the selected metric and aggregation.
  • A best effort is missing: widen the date range, confirm the sport and target, and check that the activity has usable distance and time data.
  • A record looks impossible: inspect GPS spikes, pauses, distance, duration, and duplicate activities before using it.
  • An activity does not appear on Map: it may be outside the filters or have no usable GPS route.
  • Selecting a route opens the wrong-looking poster: verify the activity date and open the full detail before sharing.
